Barge Aground
6 AdultsThis Jersey Heritage property is a unique boat-shaped seaside folly, built in the 1930's, uniquely positioned with direct access to the beautiful beach of St Ouen's Bay. A central sitting room welcomes you as you enter. There are two bedrooms a kitchen and a bathroom. The rooms have been restored to their pre-war style and ooze with character but the property now benefits from all modern conveniences. Wooden shutters keep the building cool on sunny days and double doors open out to a west facing paved area which is ideal for al-fresco dining and soaking up the wonderful views across the whole of St Ouen's Bay.
The property is accessed by several low steps but internally is on one level. It is adjacent to the sea wall which has steps down to the beach. The Barge Aground will sleep two couples or a family of four very comfortably, but can take up to six making use of the double bed settee in the lounge. It is the perfect location for access to the beach (via steps) where you will find cafes and restaurants and beach sports such as surfing, kite surfing, boogie boarding, blow carting, kayaking and skim boarding along the three mile stretch of sand. It is also conveniently located near to the wetland area of St Ouen's Pond and unspoilt dune areas, perfect for bird watchers and walkers. There is a challenging 18-hole public golf course in the bay where there is a popular restaurant and bar.
Children of all ages welcome.

Customer Comments
"This is a truly unique place that is as memorable as some of the sights that we saw around Jersey. This little place has quite a history. There's no wifi or washing machine, and we had to sleep in bunk beds, but it was absolutely worth it. It was a little too cool and breezy during our March stay to make good use of the patio and rooftop, but those would be prime locations for breakfast or dinner in the summertime. We appreciated the welcome pack bread, butter, and milk. The floors in the bathroom (and towel rack) and kitchen were heated, nice!"
"Great unique place to stay, with fab views. A few good restaurants along the beach road: Le Braye, El Tico, and La Pulente. Car not essential but recommended for the freedom".
"This goes down as one of the most unique places I've stayed. Jersey Heritage has done a fantastic job of bringing this 1930's folly back to its art deco roots. Situated right on St. Ouen's Bay - with private beach access, this is the perfect place to get away from it all. But Jersey is so small that if you have a car (recommended) it's easy to slip into one of the island's villages for dinner or sight-seeing and make it back to the Barge Aground for a quiet evening on the beach. It is simply a delightful place to stay. Welcome pack is also a nice touch and directions provided to the closest grocery store."
