Jersey Zoo was established in 1959 by the naturalist and author Gerald Durrell (1925-1995). It is operated by the Durrell Wildlife Conservation Trust. Jersey Zoo has always concentrated on rare and endangered species. It has mammals, birds, amphibians and reptiles, comprising over 130 species. The zoo is world renowned for its essential breeding and conservation programmes and work overseas. Being so much more than an average zoo, they renamed the park to Durrell Wildlife Conservation Trust, but in 2017 they decided to revert to Jersey Zoo to ensure that visitors to the Island understood exactly what it entailed - but a visit is essential, as it is so much more than just a Zoo!
AA RATING
Durrell are very happy "glampers" after being awarded the highest AA rating for their Wildlife Camp. An Inspector camped out at the park this summer and gave it 5 Green Pennants and says it was one of the best glamping sites he has ever inspected. Inspector Colin Church said: “From the moment I entered Durrell Wildlife Camp I knew this was going to be something special. The future for glamping is going to be all about improving levels of service and standards and Durrell is certainly at the forefront of this trend.
“Ashley and his team go out of their way to ensure their guests have a most memorable stay on this wonderful campsite – every family should visit Durrell!”
The camp that's nestled in the Park, was set up in 2012 with 12 luxury pods with their own facilities and views of Lemur Lake. Guests get free entry to the Park and can sign up to special dusk hours hosted by Durrell's keepers and to go "behind the scenes". There's no question of guests roughing it - the Camp is equipped with all the creature comforts including a wood burning stove, personal open sun deck, private shower facilities and a separate kitchen. Durrell’s Accommodation Manager Ashley Mullins said: “It’s all about the personal touch at Durrell Wildlife Camp. We work very hard to make sure each and every guest has an unforgettable experience. We go out of our way to ensure our guests are happy and our service is second to none.
“We’re so pleased with our AA rating – it reflects the high levels of customer service and standards that we provide.”
Durrell is the winner of Caravan & Camping awards 2016-2017 Glamping site of the year award.

Customer Comments
“Just returned from our Durrell Camp experience and all I can say is WOW! What en excellent place that has been well thought out and executed! The tents are very comfortable and cosy with the log burner and the kitchen and toilet have brilliant facilities! They have thought of everything!! Our tent was right next to the lemurs which was brilliant!”
“Recently returned from our stay at camp and can’t recommend it highly enough. We loved the pods and were impressed with the facilities. It was a fantastic experience being so close to the animals. Can’t wait to come back again!”
“We cannot fault the site. Everything is provided in the kitchen, bathroom and bedroom pods. All we had to bring was our food and toiletries. Excellent bedding and a log burner made us so cosy. We had our four year old grandson with us and he slept better than he does at home! The hosts were charming and so welcoming and accommodating. We hope to make it an annual tradition. June/ July is a great time to go because of the long, light evenings. You feel steeped in the animal adventure, yet close to the beaches and everything else Jersey has to offer!”
“What a fantastic idea and a brilliant place to stay. Comfortable and spacious pods, relaxing atmosphere and you simply can't beat breakfast on the terrace watching the Lemurs playing in the trees literally only yards away.”
“We booked this holiday as something different to do. What an amazing experience! We are so glad we did. The pods are clean with everything to make your stay most comfortable. Bed linen and towels provided and ice packs available whenever you need them. There is a very relaxed atmosphere and no one interferes with you. We were feet away from the Lemurs and got to see them play every day. With unlimited access to the park you are never short of something to do.”
